Can somebody please tell me the formula to winning the lottery from this book. Has anybody ever tried it and did you win?

The bad news is there is no reliable formula for winning the lottery. There is an Internet newsgroup rec.gambling.lottery and they will tell you the same thing.
There is one thing that I know that works. If you chose three consecutive numbers and you win the jackpot prize, you are less likely to have to split the prize with someone. How do I know this?
I wrote a program using UK National Lottery data from its beginning through 2002 and found that when three or more consecutive numbers were drawn, there was either one winner or no winner 99% of the time!
